Flint Energies Supports Fort Benning Troops With Contribution
July 06, 2011
REYNOLDS/WARNER ROBINS/UPATOI – Troops at Fort Benning received support from Flint Energies with a donation of $25,000 to the Friends of Fort Benning organization. The Friends of Fort Benning, represented by Selby Rollinson, accepted the funds from Flint Energies’ Board Directors Sam Wellborn and Jackie Robinson on June 29. Friends of Fort Benning will administer the funds to support soldiers and their families through Santa’s Castle, Community Spouses’ Club and the Directorate of Family & Morale, Welfare, Recreation.
“Our armed forces are a major part of our service territory and its communities. The Friends of Fort Benning offer one of the few avenues to reach out and express appreciation directly to our soldiers and their families. On behalf of the members and leaders of Flint, we are proud to say ‘Thank You!’ to those who stand at the front line and defend our freedom,” said Bob Ray, Flint Energies President/CEO. Ray added that Flint wanted to assist these families in a very special way. Flint Energies also serves the armed forces of Robins Air Force Base in Houston County, and the co-op made a similar donation to that Base’s 21st Century Partnership earlier this year.
Flint Energies has owned the electric system on Fort Benning since June 1999 and recently completed a new contract that will continue through 2020.
According to Friends of Fort Benning, Santa’s Castle has been serving the Fort Benning area since 1986. This non-profit organization is run entirely by volunteers whose goal is to provide toys for children of Fort Benning soldiers, who because of financial difficulties would otherwise not have toys at Christmas. Each child receives toys and each family receives a board game to promote family bonding.
The Community Spouses’ Club is a combined community spouses’ organization that operates on Fort Benning. The focus of their group is two-fold; strive to enhance the lives of the spouses stationed at the fort and support soldiers and families through welfare and scholarship funds. The Directorate of Family and Morales, Welfare, Recreation hosts programs, services, leisure activities and events throughout the year designed to enhance the lives of soldiers, family members and retirees.
