Investing in young people is one of the most meaningful ways to invest in the future of a community—and in Peach County, that future is looking strong.

In the latest episode of Front Porch Chats, we hear from recent graduates of the EMPOWER Youth Leadership Program as they reflect on a year of personal growth, leadership development, and discovering how they can make a lasting impact close to home.

Growing Confidence Through Leadership

The EMPOWER Youth Leadership Program is designed to help high school students recognize their potential and develop the tools they need to lead with confidence. Throughout the program, Peach County students were challenged to step outside their comfort zones, communicate effectively, and think critically about the role they can play in their schools and communities.

For many of these graduates, one of the biggest takeaways was learning to believe in themselves. Through team-building activities, discussions, and interactive leadership sessions, students found their voices and began to see themselves as future leaders.

Hands-On Learning with Real Community Impact

Leadership is best learned through experience, and EMPOWER gives students plenty of opportunities to do just that. During the program, students explored topics like personal strengths, community and economic development, civic engagement, and service.

By connecting with community leaders and learning how different organizations work together, students gained a broader understanding of what it takes to keep rural communities thriving. These experiences helped them realize that leadership is not always about having a title—it is often about taking initiative, serving others, and being willing to step forward when needed.

Preparing for Life After High School

As Peach County’s EMPOWER graduates look ahead to college, careers, and future opportunities, they are taking with them more than memories. They are leaving the program with stronger communication skills, increased professionalism, and a greater appreciation for the value of community involvement.

The lessons learned through EMPOWER will continue to shape these students as they enter adulthood, giving them a foundation not only for personal success but also for meaningful leadership wherever life takes them.

Building the Leaders of Tomorrow

Programs like EMPOWER matter because they remind students that their hometowns need their ideas, their energy, and their leadership. By investing in youth today, communities are building a stronger tomorrow.

These Peach County graduates are proof that leadership is already taking root—and the future is in capable hands.
