Full STEAM Ahead: Energizing Education in Our Communities
At Flint Energies, supporting education isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we put into action. Through the Full STEAM Ahead Grant, Flint Energies and the Flint Energies Foundation are helping schools bring creative, hands-on learning experiences to life across our service area.
Recently on the podcast, we sat down with Holly Owen, a teacher at Tucker Elementary School in Perry, Georgia, to talk about the power of STEAM learning and how innovative projects can energize classrooms and spark curiosity in students.
What Is the Full STEAM Ahead Grant?
The Full STEAM Ahead Grant supports creative projects that enhance learning in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. The program is open to PreK–12 public and private schools located within Flint Energies’ 17-county service territory.
Each year, two schools are selected to receive a $3,000 grant to fund their proposed STEAM project. These projects are designed to go beyond textbooks—encouraging students to explore, experiment, and think creatively.
Why Flint Energies Supports STEAM Education
Flint Energies understands that schools often face limited funding when it comes to launching innovative educational initiatives. By embracing Cooperative Principle #5: Education, Training and Information, the cooperative is able to extend its resources to support educators and students in meaningful ways.
All funding for the Full STEAM Ahead program comes from unclaimed capital credits designated specifically for education programs, making this grant a true investment back into the communities Flint Energies serves.
Hear from the Classroom
In the episode, Holly Owen shares firsthand insight into how STEAM-focused projects engage students and create excitement for learning. From collaboration and problem-solving to creativity and critical thinking, STEAM education equips students with skills they’ll use long after the school bell rings.
